A1Jewellers shares the heritage of a family of jewellers from over half a century ago. It all started around 1950 in Meerak, a village nearly 100 miles from Lahore the capital of Punjab province in Pakistan. Mian Ghulam Rasool the eldest son of Mian Siraaj-Ul-Haq started working as an apprentice with a skilled goldsmith who is locally known as "Sunaar" and was the economists of that time, investment bankers or saving bankers. People used to buy gold or leave their gold and money with these craftsmen and use it whenever they would need it. Huge piles of books known as “Wahi”, a logbook of customers were kept for every surrounding village.
After a while, Mian Ghulam Rasool started his own small jewellery workshop in his village Meerak and his younger brothers Mian Ghulam Mustafa and Mian Bashir-Ul-Haq joined him and started learning the craft. Soon the trio was running a flourishing jewellery business. In 1956 Mian Bashir-Ul-Haq got married and started his own small workshop in a small village called Bogra on the outskirts of Meerak. In 1958 he was blessed with a son who he named Mubashar Ahmad Khalid. After a while, he moved with his wife and son from Bogra to his in-law's village L Plot, which is 10 miles away from Meerak and 70 miles away from Lahore. He started a small venture in L Plot again from scratch. In a few years time, this venture turned into a successful business.
The tradition went from these three brothers to their next generation and the majority of the next generation joined the tradition one of them is Mubashar Ahmad Khalid, the eldest son of Mian Bashir-Ul-Haq, who started working as an apprentice to his father at the age of 8. Mubashar Ahmed Khalid started helping his father and learned the craft of making traditional jewellery and became a trained goldsmith. This all used to be his after school activity. In 1973 at the age of 16, he completed high school education and also became an accomplished goldsmith, and started his own work as a goldsmith in his village L Plot in 1977. He got married in 1978.
He worked in his native village and then moved to Pakistan’s third-largest city Faisalabad in 1984 and opened his first business as Chaudhary Jewellers and became a successful businessman. He gained valuable experience and managed to steer his business from nothing to a successful venture within no time. Then changing political situation and security concerns made him take the drastic step and move to the United Kingdom in 1989. His craft was still in his mind and he restlessly waited for the time to muster enough resources to start his own business again in his new home.
In 1990 he moved to Manchester and started his City&guild certificate course in Fine Jewellery, he completed this three-year course in just two years. In 1992 he opened his own business under the name of Khalid Jewellers with a partner on Cheetham Hill road and made it a successful venture within years. In 1994 this partnership dissolved and soon he decided to go solo and then A1 Jewellers was established. With this great heritage in the background, A1 Jewellers developed into a leading Diamond Jewellery, 22ct and 24ct gold jewellery, silver jewellery manufacturer and retailer.
On 29th September 2002, A1 Jewellers launched a1jewellers.com – the first online 22ct (22k) gold jewellery website with live up-to-date product prices adjusted twice daily according to the day's fixings.
